 I decided to design the strange figure in the woods from the ghosts. I thought he could be the ring master for the circus. I wanted him to lack identity, an unknown figure almost like a ghost shadow to convey how the circus is just empty in real life and all the poster promises are lies. I gave him a top hat to show how he is the ring leader with the usual red coat outfits they wear. The sad face with the tear would look incredibly odd when the poster promises fun when the leader of that circus clearly is not.    I have now deigned a new poster that i feel would work better to be the owner of the circus. However, i could still use Zelroth in other posters, hidden in the background or maybe just his shadow on the wall to keep the idea of him in use. I could also create a small figure version of him out of clay, to place inside the actual tent.     My next sketch became Creature that Kaens was supposed to be named. There's a lot wrong with this sketch but it conveys the original idea for the character.   A woman, in period clothing that was inspired by this dress from a vintage Instagram account i follow. I adore the layers and cuts in the dress with the different materials. I decided for the period clothing to suit the more vintage influence in my posters and to show how the creature is outdated on keeping up the style to blend in to humans. The woman is eating a rat and collecting the blood in bowels, which a bird is feeding from next to her. This was from the birds i saw in my garden that are nesting in the trees. The birds and creature relationship is a c ommensalism symbiotic one. Meaning the bird benefits by feeding from the blood, whilst creature receives  nothing in return.    Luna Larac is a refined drawing of the terrible painting i did one night when i was bored and tired and then gave up on half way through. I did some shading all over the ladies face and then added the basic skin tone on top. However i felt the shading showed through too much making her appear grey and oddly patchy. I kept adding a base for the skin until i realised i covered it up too much to the point she looks like Voldemort with no facial features or shading. I struggled with finding a good reference picture at the time to get the angle i desired of the face looking up. Luckily i achieved this better the second time with Luna. Additionally, from the start i wanted the smoke (soul) of the girl to be a clown face, however due to the bad angle of the first face i didnt want to repeat the face again.     For my first poster idea i drew the classic fortune teller with her crystal ball. I could change her clothes, however i wanted her to be mysterious so if i do change it, i would want her face to still be covered with a veil of sorts.    I just sketched with my pencil to capture the outline and basic shading using my favourite zigzag scribble or cross hatch technique, to establish the image. I do not want to add any colour so i feel more free to explore the colour scheme later. However for now, i picture her wearing a lilac cloak, with deep purple creases, dark shadows looming behind her and the light coming from the crystal ball that will be a silvery blue colour, projecting a golden, yellow bird. The bird and light colours was inspired by a tarot card i picked out of the deck that day designed by Natalee Miller.    I added some photos to a page to remind myself of certain details. I took photos of certain images from my research in Unit 1 of 1950s illustration styles. A couple of images i took of illustrations from a vintage shop, museum and an actual AD used in the 1950s. Although i feel this AD definitely will not influence my posters i still have my actual posters used in signs in the same style and my books about the illustrations and era to use still. This page is basically to remind me to not stray to far so i convey the style i want whilst still adding my own experimental twist if wanted.    I also added a photo and sticker of a bag i got from a shop in Nice. The border and colour scheme interested me and could influences the border styles i explore later on. I like the use of leaves to create and nontraditional border.   Ursula Sontheil was born in 1488, in a cave during a storm and continued to live there for 2 years until some locals took her away from her mother. She later returned to the cave and stayed there for the rest of her life learning about nature and herbs. Shipton was a witch that saw visions that became true. After her death she became a household name. Some people believe she was original inspiration for the pantomime dame. Clairvoyants would use her image to draw in business. Shipton foretold many things that became true such as the great fire of London and plague that occurred after her death.    The area around her cave is a beautiful walk with a wishing well, abandoned gypsies’ carts and a statue dedicated to Shipton in her cave. This definitely help influence my decision to place my work outside in my garden. Tents are supposed to be pitched outside and witches are stereotypically connecting to nature as a free spirit.    French for "Circus of the Sun", is a Canadian entertainment company. Its theatrical, character-driven approach and absence of performing animals defined Cirque du Soleil as the contemporary circus that it remains today. Each performance has a specific style in costume and stage set and a specific singer that sings in a made-up language throughout each performance of acrobatics, clowns, characters etc. The lead in musical Amelie that I saw earlier this year, and referenced in unit 1, father wrote some shows and she was the lead singer. Even though each performance has a narrative, it is so abstract and difficult to follow as not each performer tells a part of the story. That is one thing I would change about cirque du soleil as a story may make it more engaging for some fewer interesting acts.
