Sketches: Creature and Ghost

    My next sketch became Creature that Kaens was supposed to be named. There's a lot wrong with this sketch but it conveys the original idea for the character.   A woman, in period clothing that was inspired by this dress from a vintage Instagram account i follow. I adore the layers and cuts in the dress with the different materials. I decided for the period clothing to suit the more vintage influence in my posters and to show how the creature is outdated on keeping up the style to blend in to humans. The woman is eating a rat and collecting the blood in bowels, which a bird is feeding from next to her. This was from the birds i saw in my garden that are nesting in the trees. The birds and creature relationship is a commensalism symbiotic one. Meaning the bird benefits by feeding from the blood, whilst creature receives nothing in return. Although its possible that creature just enjoys the birds company and little songs as the creature is unable to speak any human language. 
   The mirror shows creatures beast form, however the angle is incorrect and it was difficult to draw the details when it is so small. Additionally the mirror needs more details to the frame to makes it more rich and old. I think i would use the mirror detailing that is in my front room. However, i decided to redraw this image as i felt i needed to be closer to Creatures face as that is the profile i have done so far on all posters. 
        Her hair is too flat, however i think this has helped me to establish more details to add identity to creature. For instance the more furry eyebrows, unusual eye shape and claw scar to her cheek. I could add her hand to her face or holding the rat, to show a more claw like hand. Lastly, the bird needs to sit more on her shoulder or collarbone to appear more placed as he feeds from the dripping blood.
   I think i might add some colour discolouration when i paint her to show how she can not take a full human form, like her eyes. I also picture her with dark brown hair that will be similar to the brown feathers of the bird.
   I haven't fully decided which version of the drawing i will use if i do. As later on i do a couple more sketches that are not profile view. Therefore either version could work. However i would take the mirror out of the other sketch and just focus closer to creature and add more bowls full of blood surrounding her. I think this will add a mystery to who she is more.


    Ghosts will not be used for any posters as i feel they do not fit in to the performers all together. Instead i could use them as a little symbol in the corner of a poster waving to the viewer to look inviting. Or not as i do not want the poster to have too much going on in them.
   The initial idea for ghosts were for the basic sheet like appearance, as they hold hands with a dead bunny. I explored the idea of drawing odd shapes behind them that represent trees like in Coraline when she walks to the unmade side of the other world. I also added a face to represent the idea of a figure hiding from behind a tree. Is he stalking the ghosts or are the ghosts luring you into the woods to him. I did not refine or develop this drawing any further due to deciding to not use it as the ghosts do not look like performers.
