Next Steps:

   I added some photos to a page to remind myself of certain details. I took photos of certain images from my research in Unit 1 of 1950s illustration styles. A couple of images i took of illustrations from a vintage shop, museum and an actual AD used in the 1950s. Although i feel this AD definitely will not influence my posters i still have my actual posters used in signs in the same style and my books about the illustrations and era to use still. This page is basically to remind me to not stray to far so i convey the style i want whilst still adding my own experimental twist if wanted.
   I also added a photo and sticker of a bag i got from a shop in Nice. The border and colour scheme interested me and could influences the border styles i explore later on. I like the use of leaves to create and nontraditional border. Also the thing gold shaped border to create a window like appearance to focus on the centre. Additionally the colours all mixed together, a dark navy blue, yellow, gold, green and red with black fonts. All very rich colours.
   I wrote a poem on the page that was from the Emerald Tablets of Thoth. Although i am not super familiar with the contents of the book it is connected to alchemist and Thoth is an Ancient Egyptian deity. God of wisdom, writing, magic, art, judgement and the dead. I thought this was interesting as my artists Miller takes interests in Ancient Egyptians too. Ive never been good at fully understanding poems by myself, however i do enjoy how this one talks about being free and how we are all stars bound to a body. That simple line stands out to me because im so used to seeing things as it is and nothing special. Which is why i think im so intrigued by Witches and the unknown, although i personally struggle to believe in these things its amazing how others do and how much more interesting it makes the world appear.
  Last of all, i added a photo of an album cover for a Soley album. I always find her music ethereal but this album cover has always caught my eye. Ive always wanted to have a go at creating something along the lines of this. The combination of layers and little details that break out of the border with paint and a photograph. Although this is not the angle i want to take with my posters, if i do decide to go down a more collages appearance i want this piece to be at the front of influences. Although truthfully i think this will not fit and i shall keep this in mind for experimenting over the summer or university.
      I wrote out a basic list of what i planned to do in my sketchbook. Starting with poster images ideas, aka the performers. I think i will do basic sketches to establish their appearance, and not add any colour so i feel free to change and experiment in colour schemes later and not feel pressured to keep them looking the same.

Extra Plans and Refinements

   I thought the "Welcomes You" on all the posters wasnt enough to really push in the viewers face that everyone is welcome and really pull them in. I decided to come up with a couple more quotes to write on a few of the posters. Help drive home the idea of fun and everybody being welcome. I think "Best show on Earth" could suit Madame Etolarac as she is presented as the circus owner, therefore showing she is proud and confident of what she has created. I also felt that "fun for all ages" could fit for Mr Cadeys poster as that poster includes a child already visually. The other two i will decide when i have created the other posters to see what space there is depending on the shape/layout of the poster. Last of all, i think i should include the word "Free" in one of the quotes such as "Free for the entire family" as people love free things and would draw more people in.    I wrote out the possible order of the posters from light to...

Influences: American Horror Story

Freakshow season- https://www.artofthetitle.com/feature/american-horror-story-7-seasons-of-title/     Artist, Kyle Cooper is the title designer for American Horror Story. Interview is about the creation of each title sequence and what goes into it. I will focus on Freakshow obviously for the circus theme and posters. The title sequence does include this mini circus which is incredibly cute. I would love to have a go at creating those white tents with sticks holding them up.        Other than the mini circus tent, I was mostly interested in the style of posters they used. Freakshow was set in 1952, and the poster styles look very similar to the style and colour choices of real 1950s circus posters. They had the cartoon style with rich pallet colours mainly using, red, green and blue. Creatures Poster

   I drew out my new sketch with plans to where the writing will go, the usual space above and below for the circus name. Over the process of making these posters i have learned to remember to rub out my drawings to lighten the pencil lines before painting over. However, i think i should try to draw lighter in the first place to skip this step.     I painted the background a strong shade of pink and matched it with a royal blue as i felt the colour was similar to the blue used in Kaens poster as well as compliments the lighter pink shade in comparison. I have drawn the line inside the bowl, to indicate the bottom of it, wrong. However, this wasnt important as the bowls will be filled with blood, covering the line up.    I needed a small background detail similar to the ones used in Cadeys, Kaens and Gazelles poster.
