Sketches: Luna Larac and Talonmour Kaens

   Luna Larac is a refined drawing of the terrible painting i did one night when i was bored and tired and then gave up on half way through. I did some shading all over the ladies face and then added the basic skin tone on top. However i felt the shading showed through too much making her appear grey and oddly patchy. I kept adding a base for the skin until i realised i covered it up too much to the point she looks like Voldemort with no facial features or shading. I struggled with finding a good reference picture at the time to get the angle i desired of the face looking up. Luckily i achieved this better the second time with Luna. Additionally, from the start i wanted the smoke (soul) of the girl to be a clown face, however due to the bad angle of the first face i didnt want to repeat the face again. At this point i knew i needed to restart so just quickly finished the painting as i couldn't leave unfinished. I am much more pleased with how Luna turned out and especially like her hair, i usually struggled with getting hair shapes right and natural as evident with the original and some of my other sketches that come later. However, i adore this short cut and how it fits her face. A certain colour scheme didnt really stand out to me as i drew this. Instead i think once i have established a more prominent colour scheme in the others i can then adopt it for this sketch if i use it.


   Talonmour Kaens came out of nowhere. They were the original "Creature" for my circus, a mystery to what they are with their alien like features, spikes on the back and horns. I also drew Kaens with the idea of them having no known human gender. Additionally, i believe when i come to paint Kaens i could explore some different skin types. Maybe scales or different bumps or overall an unnatural smooth colour that isn't a normal skin tone. Overall, Kaens feels closest to snakes out of all the animals on the planet, therefore is accompanied by a two headed snake that wraps around their body. If i use this image i would need to focus more on the particular detail to the snakes heads so they look sharper. I feel if i use this exact image the snake would also be in a stand out colour that draws you to the image and Kaens. If i do decide to draw Kaens differently, maybe the snakes could create the border to that poster.
