Gouache Style Experiments

 I chose Talonmour Kaens to experiment style with. I used gouache for how versatile it is and unable to use oil paint due to not having good ventilation at all times.   I kept colour swatches in my sketchbook of everything i used. I even had a little look into using oil pastels but due to my usual undeveloped skill in that medium i decided it was best to stick to what i know right now.    I decided to use green as the main colour for Kaens right now as i was feeling drawn to it, and it made sense with their connection to snakes. I didnt want to explore their skin pattern like scales due to not everyone else having that detail. I wanted to explore styles that worked for every poster for consistency, rest of the personal details can be added later for the actual poster.       I painted the green background first to create a colour tone underneath her skin to build up on top. Madame Etolorac Poster

   Due to the posters printing out with a white border, i felt the outside gold border i created on the experiment no longer worked and i abandoned the idea of an outside border like that. I think this worked out best as the shapes used in the posters create a small border with the writing around the edges acting as another border. However, i still felt this poster lacked something without the gold so i added these small details under the writing. I stayed with the branch border as it ties in with the use of nature throughout the series, from Gazelles leaf background to Weeping Soul himself and the flower he holds. I also think it works here as Etolorac isnt the real ringmaster, as Zelroth is just presenting her that way, so the branch border makes her look like a painting on the wall, instead of having the border behind like the others, or Kaen breaking out of their border.      Although in the experiment, her skin became patchy due to printing out the orig...

Dr Salem Poster

   New official sketch for Salems poster i think works well with the triangle shapes. I added pencil lines again to mark out where the writing will go, this time the message will be in a semi circle under the hands as open palms that are offering you something is very inviting despite if it is dangerous.    Again i used this piece of scrap paper for colour swatches whilst mixing before actually using them on the poster. I used these two pieces for Creatures and Salems poster. The tissue again to clean or dry my brush when blending etc.    For the background i mixed red, dark brown and some black gouache paint to create a drying blood appearance, I painted it across the page to create lines in the paint to appear patchy and marked as if darker sections are drying compared to the lighter sections. I think this colour works quite well for the darker sides of the poster, it works well with the browns used in Weeping Souls poster whilst being the darke...
