Luna Larac Poster

Combining the shape i chose earlier and the old sketch into this drawing worked perfectly. Originally the shape represented a portal, it was gonna be fully black with small stars inside. However i changed it to a red lid to balance out the brighter colours as this poster is not supposed to be dark. Additionally i was thinking of a jack in the box comparison. I added the gold triangles to mirror the ones in Etoloracs poster to balance out the gold features similar to the silver colour being used in two other posters. I also have stripe details in the original sketch on Laracs clothes, so i possibly dont need to use stripes in Creatures poster like i said previously. Earlier, i pictured a white background with the colour schemes of blue, red yellow or green. I settled for a bright green to be the main focus of her outfit with dark blue. Therefore red on the lid that will connect to the red used in another poster. I decided to paint Larac first and later decide if all these bright colours were enough to leave the background white. However, i feel it wont as all other backgrounds have been a colour so this one may stand out in a wrong way, also losing the white edge when printed out.

I love the appearance of random skin areas being shaded before painting the whole face in, I think its something i would like to explore where i just paint in the shaded areas and leave the rest blank. The absence of the actual face is intriguing whilst you can still make out features that make the face distinctive due to the shading.

Throughout the painting process i used this piece of paper to test the colour appearance and this piece of tissue to clean/dry my brush as to not water down a colour too much or when i needed to blend something with my brush.

I mirrored the colour choices of blue and green in the projected mask. I was going to outline the mask and create a shadow around it to elevate it from the white. But i felt the poster looked too plain and that a bright colour was needed as this is supposed to be eye catching to the public. I decided the bright green would work best as it would be a fresh vibrant colour added to the posters colour schemes. It also ties in with Laracs outfit, therefore showing how this is her colour identity. I dont think by reusing the colour that its taking anything away from her character appearance as the red helps her stand out.
I noticed some flaws such as the unevenness of the level and length of her hair on the left side. Furthermore i wasnt confident on shading around her nose due to the angle of looking up. I think the under side of her nose, the nostrils, are too visible. However i did look at a reference photo but that photo was taken from below the model instead of the further away position that Larac is in. Unfortunately this was the only reference photo i could find of this angle so i decided to not shade too much around her nose to not draw too much attention to it. Furthermore her jaw is a little lop sided. I was able to fix the unevenness of her hair but i didnt want to risk getting the wrong skin colour as a slight difference would stand out way more to the viewers eye than a little unevenness to her face.
Furthermore, i wish i went for a more semi circle shape to the "Welcomes You!" as it may have filled the side spaces more. I was quite pleased with how Laracs name fit in the space below the shape perfectly lining up. I wasnt sure if i wanted to paint green in the masks eyes, but i remembered the original sketch was based on the idea of the mask being an entity that possesses Larac when she becomes the clown. Therefore the eyes are not gaps like a mask.
The final piece with PVA glued applied, photo was taken in daylight so the lamp light had little shine effect on the poster due to the natural light.
