Gazelle Cri d'Etoile and Kaen Poster

Focusing on the Gazelle poster that i had drew out the plans on, when i developed what shape i would use for each poster. This worked perfectly with the background details that i had considered earlier on as well. I wanted plants growing behind her to suggest that her reading is fore telling some sort of growth for the customers future. Now with the hour glass shape i realised i could draw the plants roots below as a way to suggest past events shape/ help grow the person into their future self.
I conducted some mini experiments to work out the best way to paint this background. The first experiment i attempted to paint the dark background first and paint the lighter colour on top. I found this wasnt effective so tried the removing the colour that i did on Cadeys background. I felt this appeared to faint and uncontrolled. The second experiment i painted the dark background first and outlined the leaves to fill in with the lighter colour. I decided to not add veins or shading to the leaves and wiped any details off that i had already done as the background needs to stay simple. The last piece on the end was to see if the paint colour i had mixed was the right shade and consistency before applying it to the painting.

I decided to revert the green colours on either side of the poster to show how people shouldn't focus on their past and instead, take what they have learned to move forward and stay focused on the future, hence the heavier colour.
Biggest flaw i think is the patchiness in her skin tone. No matter how many times i layered more tones it appeared patchy. I think i should begin next time with a darker, solid colour for skin tone base.
Originally i had planned from the beginning to paint the bird yellow and then the shape outline. However, with the detailed background i felt it would be too much colour and distracting. Additionally, taking a colour option away from another poster as i dont want to over use one colour too much throughout so they all have an identity apart. As i had already used some silver paint for some detailing i thought i could use it for the bird and outline to show a connection and speciality of the bird due to projecting out of the crystal ball. Additionally i could play with light to catch the silver paint, so the top half of the shape outline is brighter to really push the idea of focusing on the future. I though using silver would help connect to the Etolorac poster as that one uses a gold border.

I painted the background and crystal ball a really soft pink to keep to the light poster appearance to contrast the dark ones at the end.  I am slightly concerned that the colour here is too light and will not print out too well. If it doesnt i could paint another layer and pray it doesnt effect the black ink. Another contrast to the darker posters is the colour of the writing. Black vs white to stand out from the backgrounds. Furthermore, ties into the circus tent real stripe colours. As i had altered some poster slogans from the "welcomes you" to alternative ones, i am still using this on four other posters i believe. For this photo i did my best to make sure the light caught the top of the poster and crystal ball, but not the bottom outline and it is mostly effective.
Main colour swatches used on this poster:

I printed out the poster and PVA glued it along with the Kaens poster that i created earlier as i felt this one still fit well with the rest of my posters. For instance its on the darker side so the shape is the rectangle but has no outline to emphasise it, as the darker posters lose the over the top details and perfection. The glue brought out the blue tones behind the white paint which i am quite pleased with as it takes away the cleanliness of the white as the poster needs to appear more dirty like the patchy orange border that adds a rusty appearance with the watery/drowned Kaen in the centre.
For Gazelles poster, i painted the glue round the edges first to help prevent any bleed from the colours in the centre. This definitely helped. I think with Kaens poster next to Gazelles ,despite one being from the darker side, they still fit together due to use of light colours, shapes and similarities in the "welcomes you". Kaen does slightly stand out more with the block painting of the performer being very different from the other. However that is because Kaens skin is different to others with the leather appearance. However i do plan to make Salems poster tie in with Kaens a bit more so it doesnt stand out too much as Dr Salem will be wearing leather gloves.
