Fonts



  When looking into fonts i watched a YouTube video where a person showed photos from abandoned circus trailers. I took screenshots of the lettering i saw on the outside that intrigued me. As shown on the left with my recreations for the fonts that are difficult to see.

I also added a photo on the right of an AD i saw on Instagram. I thought the way they utilised a basic straight font in black with a swirly, larger style to capture the eye below was effective. I created the writing on the top of the left page to see how this could look with the circus name and welcome message. I then looked at a piece of artwork created by Madame Talbot, one of my artist, and how the wording come out of the border around the side for "tattooed". This inspired the writing on the bottom left where it comes out of the tree branches. I quite liked the appearance of this but wasnt sure how to make it come out of the border effectively. Something i can experiment with later. I refined the "R" font i started on the left, on the right using a biro. This definitely works better with a shadow. Furthermore, the "O" with a double loop was taken from Coraline. On the cake from the Beldelm, it says "Welcome Home" with a double loop in the "o" in "home" which i came across someone saying that a double loop means its a lie and that she isnt home. I thought this could work in my message "Welcomes You!" with the double loop in "You" to show how it is a lie and that not everyone is welcome in.
   I also decided to go onto a word document and look through all the font options i had to see how each font looked together with the exact title i will be using:

  I added a shadow to these fonts as well, however that isnt possible on blogger. I am quite drawn to Algerian font or Colanna MT and decided against the fancier fonts as i know they will not be as efficient if i go with the font style of that Instagram AD. However i will still try them just in case it does work as it definitely adds a more vintage style. I will print a couple of the fonts out with a smaller image of the practice poster to see how they look placed together.

Freakshow season- https://www.artofthetitle.com/feature/american-horror-story-7-seasons-of-title/     Artist, Kyle Cooper is the title designer for American Horror Story. Interview is about the creation of each title sequence and what goes into it. I will focus on Freakshow obviously for the circus theme and posters. The title sequence does include this mini circus which is incredibly cute. I would love to have a go at creating those white tents with sticks holding them up.        Other than the mini circus tent, I was mostly interested in the style of posters they used. Freakshow was set in 1952, and the poster styles look very similar to the style and colour choices of real 1950s circus posters. They had the cartoon style with rich pallet colours mainly using, red, green and blue. Extra Plans and Refinements

   I thought the "Welcomes You" on all the posters wasnt enough to really push in the viewers face that everyone is welcome and really pull them in. I decided to come up with a couple more quotes to write on a few of the posters. Help drive home the idea of fun and everybody being welcome. I think "Best show on Earth" could suit Madame Etolarac as she is presented as the circus owner, therefore showing she is proud and confident of what she has created. I also felt that "fun for all ages" could fit for Mr Cadeys poster as that poster includes a child already visually. The other two i will decide when i have created the other posters to see what space there is depending on the shape/layout of the poster. Last of all, i think i should include the word "Free" in one of the quotes such as "Free for the entire family" as people love free things and would draw more people in.    I wrote out the possible order of the posters from light to...

Sketches: Zelroth and Dr Salem

 I decided to design the strange figure in the woods from the ghosts. I thought he could be the ring master for the circus. I wanted him to lack identity, an unknown figure almost like a ghost shadow to convey how the circus is just empty in real life and all the poster promises are lies. I gave him a top hat to show how he is the ring leader with the usual red coat outfits they wear. The sad face with the tear would look incredibly odd when the poster promises fun when the leader of that circus clearly is not.    I have now deigned a new poster that i feel would work better to be the owner of the circus. However, i could still use Zelroth in other posters, hidden in the background or maybe just his shadow on the wall to keep the idea of him in use. I could also create a small figure version of him out of clay, to place inside the actual tent.
